SPARK is a dynamic development and nonprofit organization with over 80 staff members from various countries who help young entrepreneurs start or expand their own businesses. SPARK achieves its mission by organizing business plan competitions, business skills training, coaching and mentoring SMEs, business incubation, SME financing, intensive courses of professional higher education, curriculum development and quality assurance in universities and higher education institutes.
SPARK focuses on small businesses expanding in post-conflict states such as, and not limited to: Burundi, Kosovo, Liberia, Mali, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Somalia and Sudan south.
SPARK is currently looking to fill the position of
ABIN Program Officer
The ABIN Program Officer will provide support to the ABIN Program Manager and the ABIN staff in coordinating certain agribusiness development activities.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
Support Project Management
• Prepare annual activity plans for incubation centers, define objectives and tasks, evaluate and respect annual operating budgets (in direct relation with the Financial Officer and the Country Manager)
• Be in charge of the narrative and financial reporting of the ABIN program
• Supervise the implementation of the program, its monitoring and evaluation in collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager based in Amsterdam
• Monitor and control budgets, supervise the financial management of incubation centers
Support for entrepreneurs
• Identify, welcome and coach selected entrepreneurs in the creation and / or development of a company
• Study, analyze and evaluate the business plans presented by entrepreneurs
• Accompanying entrepreneurs for information gathering and development of markets
Training and Incubation Program
• Supervise the management of training courses to encourage the design of new trainings directly related to the agribusiness sector, to update and improve the existing training courses and to facilitate their implementation.
• Ensure the management of the training programme and incubation center as a profit center
• Promote training programs, advice or design of the technical and commercial videos of the ABIN centers
• Assist with periodic market studies in relation to the target populations in order to assess the training needs and to develop the training modules to be offered to entrepreneurs
Monitoring and Evaluation
• Be responsible for the implementation of the overall M & E strategy in the framework of the ABIN project
• Support the process of improving data quality, including necessary revisions of existing tools or design of new tools and systems to ensure quality M & E data
• Design and organize training(s) in the use of M & E tools and systems for project staff in the collection, analysis, reporting, including use of digital platforms for storing and retrieving data
• Conduct regular field visits to support the implementation of M & E and ensure the quality of the data and identify the necessary adaptations
• Develop a learning and knowledge management program for project staff to promote an internal culture of learning and sharing with other partners
Requirements and Skills:
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience with a track record
• Bachelor or Master in Business Administration, Rural Economics, Development or a similar discipline
• Successful work experience in Burundi or the Great Lakes region in a similar area of work
• Proven experience in analyzing business plans
• Demonstrated and successful capacity in the development of projects in the areas of agribusiness
• Demonstrated and successful team management skills
• Strong written communication skills for report writing and presentations
• Ability to work with tight deadlines for managing multiple tasks and projects
• Ability to adapt to changing needs and changing business
• Have the ability to work independently while integrating into a team
• Good communication, being sociable and able to work in a multicultural context
• Be proactive and have a willingness to work beyond what is expected
• Strong knowledge of the computer tool, mainly the use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong knowledge of oral and written language in Kirundi, French and English
• Knowledge of food technologies is a major advantage
• Holder of a B driver’s license
